Alice Phoebe Lou

Alice Phoebe Lou

Originally from South Africa, where she was born and raised until the age of sixteen, Alice Phoebe Lou is known worldwide for her refined street blues. Proud of her independent approach and influenced from an early age by the artistic family environment, at the age of sixteen Alice Phoebe Lou faced her first trip to Europe with only the company of a guitar. Inspired by a performance by fire dancers in Paris, she began performing on the streets, collecting the money needed to continue her journey, which began during the summer break from school. In those months Alice travels between Paris and Amsterdam, between one street performance and another. This wandering is an inspiration to her and, after returning to South Africa to complete her studies, Alice decides to move to Berlin. The sense of freedom of the city and its numerous musical contaminations envelop her in a creative world. So she decides to travel throughout Germany, with a guitar, a small amplifier and her already undisputed musical skills. Meanwhile, she begins to collaborate with artists in the world of acoustic jazz and electronics, including the multi-instrumentalist Matteo, who becomes her partner in live performances. ‘Momentum’ EP, created in total autonomy, sees the light in 2014 and, despite the interest from record labels, Alice Phoebe Lou continues with her DIY approach.
Meanwhile her fan community grows from city to city. After spending two years between Europe and South Africa, and having performed at the opening concerts of well-known artists including Rodriguez, in 206 Alice publishes ‘Orbit’, the first studio album, a disc with jazz influences and a vagabond, enriched with her soprano voice. Produced by Matteo and Kyson, ‘Orbit‘ is a pattern of sounds representing Alice Phoebe Lou’s last years of travel between Europe and South Africa.
In March 2019 the artist released, always in total autonomy, ‘Paper Castles’, the second studio album, followed in 2021 by ‘Glow‘ and ‘Child’s Play‘, accompanied by the single ‘Dirty Mouth‘.
