Trasformazione
ELISA CITTERIO – baroque violin

“Violin on shoulder and many notes and steps to reach new goals. Matteis, an outstanding Italian violinist probably originally from Naples, was among the countless musicians who traveled across Europe in the 1600s in search of fortune, and thanks to which musical genres were transformed through the contamination of genres.
In this program with the violin in my arms I will face pages of music that are only apparently as distant from each other as the kilometers that separated the composers who wrote them. In reality, in each piece we find details that take us back to other genres, a popular rhythm, a dance, a theme from the popular tradition developed in a personal way by each musician. A journey through music that transforms itself.”

Bio

Elisa Citterio, violinist, has been Tafelmusik’s Music Director since 2017, sharing her very intense artistic activity between Canada, Italy and the rest of the world. Just 18 months after her assignment in Toronto, she was awarded with the Leonardo Award for Arts, Science & Culture 2019 by the Italian Chamber of Commerce for her contribution to the cultural and intellectual life of Canada.
In 2000 Elisa was selected as first violin and soloist with the orchestra of the Accademia del Teatro alla Scala of Milan, where she received an intense professional training in the orchestral and chamber music repertoire and in the violin technique as well. Immediately after graduation, she began studying the baroque violin, participating in masterclasses with Enrico Onofri, and studying with Chiara Banchini at the Schola Cantorum Basilensis, and with Luigi Mangiocavallo in Rome. From 2004 to 2017 she was part of the Orchestra of the Teatro alla Scala of Milan.
Elisa Citterio's discography includes more than 35 recordings with the Accademia I Filarmonici (Vivaldi), Europa Galante (Vivaldi and Bach), Zefiro (Handel), Accordone (Stories of Naples), Brixia Musicalis (Vivaldi Four Seasons), Byzantine Academy (Handel and Corelli), Il Giardino Armonico (Handel and Haydn), La Venexiana (Monteverdi), Joachim Quartet (Schuster), Helianthus Ensemble (C.P.E. Bach trios).
Elisa played with Stefano Montanari in the Estravagante Ensemble, and from 2014 to 2016 she worked alongside Stefano as co-president of the baroque violin study program at the Civica Claudio Abbado Music School in Milan.
Despite being at the direction of one of the best teams in the world in the field of Early Music, Elisa is a pioneer in the musical area, showing her attitude both in the programming of Tafelmusik and also in her artistic planning as a soloist and instrumentalist.
