The collaboration between Chrystabell and Marc Collin (Nouvelle Vague) is intriguing and evocative: the duo, with the Strange As Angels project, reinvents the most classic songs of The Cure, enriching them with Collin’s expert production and with the hypnotic and sensual voice of Chrystabell, charming muse of David Lynch.
The duo explores almost all of The Cure’s entire discography in chronological order, re-proposing the best hits of Robert Smith’s band, as well as lesser-known but more profound songs. Smith’s intense and emotional writing is given new life with “Strange As Angels”, the new collaboration of Crhystabell and Marc Collin.
It was like a vision for me,” Collin said, “I imagined Chrysta Bell alone on stage singing these songs.” Collin handled the arrangements as a bridge between the worlds of Lynch and The Cure, fusing strings, percussion and electronics.
Strings, percussions and the pioneering electronic instrument Therminovox are the elements of the valuable musical architecture of the project, which has the task of canceling that temporal dimension, apparently inviolable, dressing up melodies never worn out by the passage of time with unprecedented and unexpected emotions, to which the Chrysta Bell’s voice lends a sensuality and a gothic and magical atmosphere, which captures the deep existentialist and noir themes of the Cure’s music.
