Stewart Copeland, legendary founder and drummer of Police, presents Police Deranged For Orchestra, an orchestral opera in which he revisits as never before the iconic songs of the band that made music history. With his vast experience as a composer in the field of opera, orchestra and ballet, Copeland reproposes the hits of the Police in an unprecedented and overwhelming symphonic experience.

In these concerts, Copeland offers a new perspective on hits such as Roxanne, Don’t Stand So Close To Me and Message In A Bottle, joined by a talented ensemble of musicians and an orchestra of 27 members, in an energetic evening where he focuses on the epic rise of his musical career, and then unravel through four decades. The idea for this concert came when Stewart Copeland started working on the soundtrack of a film about Police. The demands of cinema required a different approach to music, leading to the need to rework these pop songs. By analyzing and breaking down the music of Police to fit into the scenes of the film, Copeland found new inspiration, turning these tracks into a unique orchestral experience.

Stewart Copeland himself states: “The distortion of these songs started as a soundtrack for a film I made with some of the band’s Super8 footage, taken during our ascent to glory. Cinema has whimsical demands on music, and that’s why these pop songs had to be twisted. I had to dissect the Police music to serve the scenes of the film and, once prepared for the scalpel, I was overwhelmed by a new inspiration. Researching the multi-track original recordings, and live performances, has brought to light lost guitar solos, bass lines and vocal improvisations too beautiful to be forgotten. Meanwhile, my 20 years as a film composer had imposed an orchestral education on me, and here is the idea of this combination that led to Police Deranged For Orchestra. Sting’s songs, Andy’s inventions and my enthusiasm: all together in a wild run with the orchestra.”

Accompanying Copeland in this musical adventure there will be extraordinary musicians: the vocalist Sarah-Jane, Laise Sanches and Raquel Brown will bring new vocal nuances to the songs of Police, while Gianni Rojatti on guitar will add a touch of virtuosity. Al basso Faso, known for his work with Elio e Le Storie Tese, and on the keyboards Vittorio Cosma, also a member of Elio e Le Storie Tese and The Producers, who will contribute with his experience and musical mastery. The orchestra, composed of 27 talented members, will complete this exceptional ensemble.

Police Deranged For Orchestra will be held on October 18, 2024 at the TAM Teatro Arcimboldi in Milan. The concert is organized by IMARTS – International Music And Arts.
