GRUPO CORPO

Biography

Brazilian Dance Theater

Artistic Director: Paulo Pederneiras

One attends a performance by Grupo Corpo above all to experience extraordinary dance: performers overflowing with inexhaustible energy, charisma, and sensuality.
Their productions inspire stadium-like enthusiasm among audiences, filling theatres to capacity wherever they perform.
Over more than forty years of activity, this company — founded in the state of Minas Gerais, far from the more folkloric and commercial image of Brazil — has created a remarkable series of unforgettable works. Choreographer Rodrigo Pederneiras, who consistently brings out the full expressive potential of his 21 dancers, remains deeply connected to the culture of his country, embracing both its refined and popular dimensions.
Original scores for the company’s productions have been commissioned from some of Brazil’s most important musicians, including Caetano Veloso, José Miguel Wisnik, João Bosco, Gilberto Gil, Uakti, and Lenine, immersing audiences fully in the richness and modernity of contemporary Brazilian culture.
The dancers’ technical mastery is astonishing, and the virtuosic achievements of a company entirely devoted to contemporary movement and rhythmic vitality are simply breathtaking.
