Léo Delibes (1836–1891) / Jean-Guillaume Bart
The pinnacle of ballet-pantomime, Coppélia, first performed on 25 May 1870, is one of the most emblematic ballets of the French school, rooted in the refined style taught at the Paris Opera Ballet.
Jean-Guillaume Bart, former Étoile of the Paris Opera Ballet and choreographer, presents his own version of the work in the spirit of the great French ballet tradition. He sees Swanilda as “a modern, determined and dynamic character. She is the one who conducts the investigation, who leads the dance…”
Set to the melodious and colorful score by Léo Delibes, this strange and enchanting tale comes to life through the stage designs by Antoine Fontaine, the lighting by François Menou, and the costumes by David Belugou.
