Presented for the first time in Montreal in December 2017, Dance Me is inspired by the repertoire of Leonard Cohen and offers a multifaceted portrait of the creator of Hallelujah.
Structured around “five seasons,” the work evokes the great cycles of life through Cohen’s artistic universe. As a profound observer of his time, Cohen expressed recurring and universal themes through songs in which audiences can easily recognize elements of their own lives and emotions.
Each season unfolds through a series of tableaux representing different moods and emotional states associated with seasonal colors and natural elements.
The performance also incorporates references to the real places that shaped Cohen’s artistic life, brought to life through video clips and multimedia projections.

The choreography was entrusted to three internationally renowned choreographers whose artistic signatures complement one another:

  • Andonis Foniadakis
  • Annabelle Lopez Ochoa
  • Ihsan Rustem

For this production, BJM – Les Ballets Jazz de Montréal obtained the exclusive rights to use the complete works of Leonard Cohen.
