TEODORO BAÙ & ANDREA BUCCARELLA

Teodoro Baù & Andrea Buccarella

Teodoro Baù is the winner of the latest MA Competition Bruges (2021) and received the prestigious Diapason d’Or (October 2022) together with Andrea Buccarella for their recording Arcangelo Corelli – Sonatas for Viola da Gamba & Continuo, entirely dedicated to Corelli. The duo made their debut a few months ago at the Musikverein in Vienna as part of its chamber music season, broadcast live on radio, achieving remarkable success. They are regularly invited to perform at some of Europe’s most prestigious early music festivals and concert series.

“From Sonata No. 11, which opens the anthology, the ear is immediately captivated by the instrument’s rich sonority, illuminating even the smallest details, charting a path of framed freedom supported by an almost orchestral harpsichord. The grave, prelude, and adagio allow Baù to unfold broad musical arches in which his mastery of ornamentation — deeply influenced by Geminiani — reaches such elegance that one feels Corelli rediscovered. Refinement does not exclude authority and bite in the bow, as heard in La Follia, nor a willingness to rethink the melodic line in the allegros or gigues. (…) Without any doubt, an important milestone in the history of Corelli interpretation and a young performer we can no longer do without!” Frédéric Degroote

The prestigious Diapason d’Or crowns an intense process of research and artistic dedication, adding yet another distinguished recognition to the careers of this young yet already exceptional duo.
