Founder and frontman of Talking Heads since 1974, creator of Luaka Bop, record producer, photographer, director, author, musician and finally artist, David Byrne is a constantly exploding talent. American of Scottish origin, he won, in his long and still very active career, an Oscar for best soundtrack (“The Last Emperor“, 1988), a David di Donatello for best musician (“This Must Be The Place” , 2012) and a David di Donatello for best original song (“If It Falls, It Falls”, 2012). But Byrne’s artistic career continues: in fact, the artist has been exhibiting visual art for over a decade.

His most recent works include “Joan of Arc: Into the Fire,” a theatrical retelling of the historic Joan of Arc, which premiered this year at the Public Theater in New York, “The Institute Presents: Neurosociety,” a series interactive installations created in collaboration with PACE Arts + Technology (2016), “Contemporary Color”, an event inspired by the American folk tradition, presented in 2015 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn and at the Toronto Air Canada Center, “Here Lies Love”, a theatrical production of 22 compositions created in collaboration with Fatboy Slim on the life of Imelda Marcos and premiered at the Public Theater in New York (2013) which was followed by an extensive sold-out tour at the London National Theater (2014-2015). Among his most recent productions, the one with St. Vincent for the album “Love This Giant” (2012) and the book “How Music Works” (2012), a study on history, experience and the social and sociological aspect of music.

David Byrne, artist and creative mind with undisputed talents, has left a mark in the history of current music by founding the Talking Heads, an experimental and avant-garde band capable of combining white and black music, constituting one of the cornerstones of the American new wave . Subsequently – and simultaneously – with the Talking Heads, David Byrne embarked on a long and enlightening solo career from 1981, collaborating with artists of the caliber of Brian Eno, Ryuichi Sakamoto (with whom he won the Oscar, the Golden Globe and the Grammy over the years 1988-1989 for the soundtrack of the film by Bertolucci “The Last Emperor“), St. Vincent (with which he released the album “Love This Giant” in 2012). His passion for world music leads him to found Luaka Bop, the renowned label of Os Mutantes, Jim White, Los De Abajo, Atomic Bomb Band and others.

Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002, David Byrne is a volcano of ideas that flow into hyper-productivity characterized by fusion, contamination, creativity and experimentation, with over forty years of career behind him, without ever losing his ‘aplomb not even for a moment.
