Between censorships and line-up changes, Emir Kusturica entered The No Smoking Orchestra in 1986, participating in the recording of the third successful album. In 1998 the band composed the music for Kusturica’s film ‘Gatto Nero Gatto Bianco’, Leone d’Argento at the Venice Film Festival of the same year. After a very long world tour, the orchestra composes the soundtrack of ‘La Vita è un Miracolo’, the director’s new film presented at Cannes in 2004. In the following years, The No Smoking Orchestra continues to create the soundtracks for Kusturica’s films , from ‘Il Tempo dei Gitani’ to ‘On The Milky Road‘, which sees Monica Bellucci among the actresses.
Balkan rhythms and musical mixtures, including folk, jazz and gypsy music, are the elements that have always characterized this super band, in concert with Emir Kusturica in the guise of musician and driver.
