Biography
The A|CH Dance Theatre was founded in 2000 in Vilnius, Lithuania, and is now considered one of the most compelling contemporary dance-theatre companies in Europe.
For more than thirty years, Anželika Cholina has created productions for major theatres around the world, working across a wide range of forms including ballet, theatre, opera direction, choreographic miniatures, dance theatre, operetta and television.
She collaborates regularly with the Bolshoi Theatre and the Vakhtangov Theatre in Moscow.
Trained at the Vilnius Ballet School and at the Russian Academy of Theatre Arts (GITIS), she is currently an Associate Professor at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre.
She has received numerous national and international awards, including the prestigious Golden Mask Award in Moscow for Best Choreography for Anna Karenina.
Rimas Tuminas, director of the historic Vakhtangov Theatre, who chose her as choreographer for his award-winning productions, said of her: “The extraordinary choreographic and directorial talent of Anželika Cholina is rooted in her ability to understand theatre — its aesthetics and its culture. She is a great director, capable of seeing inner beauty, of delving deeply into the soul of performers and revealing their most hidden aspects. She understands the paradox at the heart of human nature, creating a kind of miracle on stage. She sees theatre from within and creates through it.”
