Morricone dirige Morricone
È Mio Padre – Morricone Dirige Morricone is the symphonic project dedicated to the artistic legacy of Ennio Morricone, brought to life on stage through a unique perspective: that of his sons.
Leading the Orchestra Filarmonica del Teatro di Modena is Maestro Andrea Morricone, with the participation of Marco Morricone as narrator. The project returns Morricone’s music to its deepest origins, intertwining performance, storytelling and imagery in an essential, evocative and direct form.
Five years after his passing on July 6, 2020, Ennio Morricone remains one of the greatest musical voices of the twentieth century. Composer of more than 470 soundtracks for film and television, winner of two Academy Awards and three Grammy Awards, and collaborator with directors such as Brian De Palma, Oliver Stone and Roman Polanski, Morricone forever transformed the relationship between image and sound, leaving behind a catalogue that transcends genres, languages and generations.
È Mio Padre moves within this extraordinary legacy and brings it back to the stage without filters, in its most authentic form.
Andrea Morricone has selected some of the Maestro’s most celebrated scores and presents them exactly as they were originally written, allowing the music to speak with its own voice and avoiding any form of adaptation. The result is a sound that preserves the precision and evocative power of Morricone’s original writing, capable of awakening images that belong to collective memory.
Alongside the music, Marco Morricone accompanies the audience with stories and fragments drawn from the book Ennio Morricone, il genio, l’uomo, il padre, published by Sperling & Kupfer in 2024, offering a portrait suspended between personal memory and artistic history.
The program unfolds as a musical narrative featuring some of Morricone’s most iconic works: it opens with the unforgettable notes of Once Upon a Time in the West and retraces the long artistic partnership with Sergio Leone, a relationship born in the 1960s but rooted much earlier, when the two were classmates at school.
The journey then expands to other landmark works, from The Legend of 1900 to La Califfa and The Mission, culminating in the suite from Cinema Paradiso featuring the celebrated love theme composed by Andrea Morricone himself.
Completing the program are Here’s to You, written together with Joan Baez for Sacco e Vanzetti, and finally Se telefonando, a piece deeply embedded in Italian collective memory that reveals another side of Morricone’s compositional genius.
The performances are accompanied by previously unseen images, while the Coro Da Camera Ricercare Ensemble, soprano Vittoriana De Amicis, pianist Cecilia Grillo, and the Orchestra Filarmonica del Teatro di Modena create a musical progression that gradually intensifies, drawing audiences into a compact and immersive sonic experience.
