L'IDIOTA

show in two acts for 17 dancers

L'Idiota

World Premiere: September 18, 2017

“God and the devil are fighting,
and the battlefield is the human heart.”
— Fyodor Dostoevsky

Deeply rooted in Russian culture, Anželika Cholina has created a production that theatrically highlights the dramatic tensions of Dostoevsky’s novel. All the central characters of the story appear on stage: Prince Myshkin, Nastasya Filippovna, General Epanchin, his three daughters, and Prince Shch.
The relentless pace of life has deprived us of the essence of who we truly are — the awareness of and respect for our individuality. We are often unable to see the light within ourselves and in those around us. And when someone manages to reveal it, they are often regarded as strange, as something unusual.
The Idiot by Fyodor Dostoevsky, translated into the language of my dance, raises questions about the destruction of individuality and offers hope to those who have not yet surrendered to the rules and orders imposed by life.
