Following the great critical and public success of Marco Goldin’s previous productions — with around sixty performances across Italy and nearly 40,000 tickets sold — comes a new theatrical project dedicated to the colorful life and work of Claude Monet. A true celebration for the eyes and the heart.
December 5, 2026 marks the centenary of the great painter’s death. Under the banner “Monet 100”, the production will celebrate one of the most beloved and influential artists in the history of art — a master who not only laid the foundations of Impressionism but also traced, across decades, the evolution of image-making itself, moving from figurative representation toward near abstraction, culminating in the extraordinary visual “novel” of the water lilies in his garden at Giverny.
The performance will be a 90-minute theatrical experience making extensive use of technology and stage machinery to convey, through a highly engaging and contemporary language, the poetic essence of Monet’s life and artistic vision.
The stage will be dominated by a large screen where, through two ultra-high-resolution projectors, a striking scenography will unfold — a continuous flow of animations and visual montages created from specially filmed footage in the locations where Monet painted in France and beyond. These images will intertwine with those of his most famous paintings, constantly deconstructed and reassembled in 3D, allowing the audience to feel as if they are truly inside the works themselves.
Marco Goldin’s narrative will take shape from a bench placed on stage before the large screen, as if his words were emerging from a quiet corner of the garden at Giverny.
Enhancing the storytelling will be Remo Anzovino on piano and Daniela Savoldi on cello and voice, creating a fascinating interplay of presence and absence that unites narration, extraordinary imagery, and original music.
The story of Monet’s life will unfold in six continuous chapters: beginning with his early years between the legendary Fontainebleau forest and the beaches of Normandy in the 1860s; followed by the golden era of Impressionism in the villages of Argenteuil and Vétheuil during the 1870s; then the crucial period along the cliffs of Normandy in the early 1880s; his great painting journeys — from the Mediterranean landscapes of Bordighera and Antibes to the tulip fields of Holland and the snowy vistas of Norway; followed by his stays and works in London and Venice; and finally the apotheosis of his enchanted garden at Giverny.
Even in summary, the immense fascination of Monet’s life is evident — a journey tied to masterpieces that will come alive on stage within an atmosphere of hypnotic suggestion and visual wonder.
