Notes on the Performance

Philippe Kratz was one of the most influential dancers of the Italian company Aterballetto.
Over the course of his performing career, he collaborated with major choreographers and took part in numerous internationally acclaimed tours, building a rich artistic experience that now informs his own choreographic voice.
Having concluded his active career as a dancer, Kratz has transformed this artistic background into a distinctive choreographic language, earning recognition as one of the most promising emerging choreographers of his generation.
In 2014, 2017, and 2022, the magazine TANZ named him among the most remarkable figures in contemporary dance, while the Italian magazine Danza&Danza awarded him Choreographer of the Year in January 2020.
Unfolding is the title of a ten-minute jewel created with a quartet from Tanzmainz.
Its highly precise and idiosyncratic physical language — demanding exceptional technical ability from the dancers — develops in constant dialogue with space. A repertoire of intricate solos gradually unfolds into an increasingly complex and interconnected group structure, growing in both intensity and clarity.
Body geometry brought to a state of near perfection: this is the essence of Philippe Kratz’s choreographic language.
