A real sacred monster who in her career has been able to range with success and important recognitions among many forms of art: music, film, writing, photography, sculpture and installations.
Too often the expression “multimedia artist” has been abused, but if there is anyone who can really boast of this title, it is her. During her career she has played countless roles and has always managed to combine experimentation on electronics with a language accessible to the general public. In his figure, two strands of tangency between art and music are united. On the one hand there is the influence of performance art (from the forerunner John Cage to the Fluxus group), with the mingling of the artist’s body, the protagonist of the action that constitutes the work, and the technological medium represented by the video, which preserves its memory. On the other hand, there is the electronic avant-garde which, with Varèse and Stockhausen, has also become part of contemporary art books. Add to that an all-New York propensity for urban poetry, which will lead her to collaborate with figures such as William Borroughs and Robert Wilson and will also be part of the artistic and sentimental relationship with Lou Reed. What distinguishes Anderson from many musicians lent to art is the fact that for her the two aspects are inseparable and live one by virtue of the other.
