Bio

Singer-songwriter, poet, writer and phantasmagoric entertainer, VINICIO CAPOSSELA (Hannover, 1965) made his debut in 1990 under the aegis of Renzo Fantini (Paolo Conte, Francesco Guccini) with the album All'una e trentacinque circa, which earned him the Targa Tenco , an award that will be awarded to him three more times in the following years.
If the first ``pre-biographical`` records, such as Modì (1992) and Camera a sud (1994), confirm his talent in Italy and abroad - in 1995 a prestigious sold out at the Theater de la Ville in Paris - with Il ballo di San Vito (1996) comes the first musical derailment: Macedonian fanfares and Marc Ribot's guitar merge into a music that thrives on imaginative and at the same time more personal references and references.
From the album Canzoni a Manovella (2000) onwards Capossela turns his attention to more universal themes, often inspired by great literature, from Melville to Céline to Dante to Homer, while his concert activity, both in Italy and abroad, it is increasingly aimed at representing the work in the form of a show and at the same time taking root in a series of unique events without repetitions.
In 2003, after two years of intense concert activity, L’indispensabile arrives, the first collection of hits also containing his first ever cover, Adriano Celentano's ``Si è spento il sole``. The following works, Ovunque Proteggi (2006), Da solo (2008) and Marinai Profeti e Balene (2011), as well as being embodied in highly successful shows, provide the starting point for a filmed documentation, as in the case of the two live performances Nel niente sotto il sole (2007) and Solo show (2009).
To Greece and to rebetiko, ``more than a music, a way of life``, he dedicates the album Rebetiko Gimnastas (2012), the film Indebito (2013) shot together with the director Andrea Segre, previewed at the Locarno festival and screened at the cinema with enormous consensus from audiences and critics, and the book Tefteri, notebook of outstanding accounts (2013), published by Il Saggiatore.
In 2013 he made his debut as producer for the album ``Primo Ballo`` of the Banda della Posta, an album of music for weddings with which he performed on a tour of more than fifty dates. Furthermore, the first edition of the Calitri Sponz Fest (2013), a festival he conceived and of which he is still artistic director, focuses on the theme of the wedding, Festival now in its seventh edition and which this year can count on the twinning with the city of Matera on the occasion of its nomination as European Capital of Culture 2019.
Canzoni della Cupa comes out on May 6, 2016 and sees the participation of numerous guests including Giovanna Marini, Antonio Infantino, Los Lobos, Calexico, Flaco Yimenez. The release of the album is followed by a summer presentation tour and two theatrical tours with shows based on the themes of Shadow and Winter. In the space that separates them there is the opportunity, in the summer of 2017, to create - the only Italian artist - a summer tour of single Acts designed exclusively to be performed only once. They are joined by the Combat Folk! Mini-tour and a series of publications and concerts in various countries around the world.
2017 ends with the awarding of the prestigious Tenco Award, a recognition that the Club pays to the artist's career, while in 2018 the recordings of a new record work come to life: in April the single `` Il povero Cristo` is released. `which anticipates the release of the album Ballate per uomini e bestie.
The single was accompanied by the video made in Riace directed by Daniele Ciprì and the extraordinary participation of Enrique Irazoqui and Marcello Fonte. The Ballate per uomini e bestie theatrical tour, scheduled for autumn 2019, is preceded by a new series of one-act concerts and some important dates abroad.
On February 14, 2020, in the year of the thirtieth anniversary of his career, the new recording project by Vinicio Capossela Bestiario d'amore (La Cupa / Warner Music Italy) presented on February 14 at the Union Chapel of London, will be released on CD and EP 10.
