VIA DELLE MONDINE 6, 41012 CARPI (MO) ITALY

On stage on 19 December at the Fiesole Theatre, the contemporary opera retraces the story of a little girl who “went to sea” and who lived with her parents in Tripoli.
But the narrative is also a continuous historical reference. These are raw pages that start from the conquest of Libya by the Italians, tell of the mass genocide of the Arabs and the deportation of the rebel populations of Cyrenaica, of the quiet period of the monarchy of King Idris I up to the coup d’état carried out by Gaddafi in 1970 following which twenty thousand Italians residing in Libya are chased away forever, exiles in Italy, in a homeland in which they no longer recognize themselves.
“Il Ricordo che se ne ha”  traces all the stages of that forgotten historical event and is intertwined with the joyful and multiracial childhood of a little girl and her innocent family. That little girl, having become an adult, tells her daughter “her” story so that “the memory she has of it” is not lost and remains etched in her memory.
