“What also made the event rock was the best soundtrack of any season, a sensational retro futurist mashup by DJ Andy Butler.”- FashionNetwork.com

“Dressed in a shirt and tie, bow-adorned mini-shorts and an oversized dinner jacket with Grace Jones-inspired hot pink makeup, the tone for the evening was set, with the dance floor-ready remix of Hercules & Love Affair’s ‘Blind’, a staple sound of underground queer culture, wasn’t enough to drive home that it was party time; and only the most fabulous were invited. “Tatler

Known to most for being the founder of Hercules & Love Affair – the musical project that produced world-famous songs including the hit ‘Blind’, featuring the vocals of Anohni – Andrew Butler is a renowned retro-futurist DJ and producer. His creativity is such as to embrace various forms of art, up to fashion with the precious invitation from Maison Valentino to musically accompany the presentation of the new line created by Pierpaolo Piccioli, ‘Le Club Couture’, an important recognition for Butler who, on Wednesday 25 January, curated the event in Paris with a special playlist created ad hoc and available here
Released last June, ‘In Amber’ is the fifth album signed by Hercules & Love Affair, a collection of songs that make use of the well-established collaboration with Anohni. Atmospheric and intimate, ‘In Amber’ reflects Butler’s need to explore new territories, from human to musical. The result is a melancholic and atypical collection for the artist, who has always been fascinated by dance music and its hedonism. Since he was a teenager, he has been DJing in underground clubs of his native Denver, then moved to New York, where the original and wild queer nightlife was located, which then gave birth to the rave culture of the city, experiencing unruly years until founding Hercules & Love Affair.

Andrew Butler cuts a lone figure in the current landscape; tireless dj and wandering soul always around the world, often hidden behind the dishes and behind the voices of his guests such as Anohni and John Grant above all. Yet Andy Butler has been the only constant behind the Hercules & Love Affair project since the time of the historic and self-titled debut album.

In this podcast, Andy – musician, producer and the name behind Hercules & Love Affair – talks about his experience as the show’s music curator, the power of clubbing and why the world might need to dance a little more.
